Property company Potter Space, with five business parks across the UK comprising over 1.6 million sq. ft. of commercial space, is supporting a Yorkshire Children’s Charity scheme to offer students from Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds the opportunity to develop a range of practical work skills.
As a mentor, Potter Space, will work with year 10 students to provide support, guidance and direction as they undertake a business challenge to develop, market and sell a product.
The scheme has been developed by LEAP on behalf of the charity and is designed to open the minds of young people to the world of commerce. Each group has been awarded £500 to develop a business, and be challenged to manage budgets, commercial viability and marketing. All profits will be returned to the charity.
Jason Rockett, managing director at Potter Space, said: “We’re delighted to be helping students at Corpus Christi Catholic College compete in Yorkshires. Young Entrepreneur Challenge. It is great to be able to share our expertise to support the year 10 pupils learn new skills, discover their own talents and potential. The challenge will hopefully give them the confidence and inspiration to want to be entrepreneurs, business owners or leaders of the future. Potter Space puts great importance on its involvement in communities, charities and other good causes in the local areas where the company’s five business parks are based. It is a privilege to be involved in this Yorkshire Children’s Charity initiative which has also been hugely rewarding for our whole team.”
It is a sentiment echoed by Suzanne Pedro from Corpus Christi, who said: “Initiatives like this help us bring the world of work to life as these young people make decisions about their next steps. The children have been busy creating a gift-set called the Pamper Hamper, one targeted at women and one specifically for men, both are £12. Each contain a selection of essential self-care products which offer good value for money as the perfect gift for Christmas. Anyone who is interested in purchasing one can contact the school. We will also be selling the Pamper Hampers at Asda Killingbeck.”
Established earlier this year Yorkshire Children’s Charity supports children and young people living at a disadvantage to make a difference to their lives, futures and ambitions.
Ellie Bruce from Yorkshire Children’s Charity, said: “We are pleased to welcome Potter Space to the scheme and know they can offer a very different perspective to the young people for Corpus Christi. The many different aspects of their business from business, construction, property investment and development, as well as accountancy and administration, will provide a fresh perspective for the children.”
Potter Space will work with the students over two months to mentor them during the production of the gift basket business.
Eight schools across Leeds will complete the course, with judging taking pace on November 17th to crown the most successful business.
